Below is a comparison of both lace cap designs. A white cloth is used to illustrate the difference in appearance.

There are two common laces from which to choose.  French lace or Swiss lace. Lace is the most undetectable material used in hairpieces today.  Once placed on your scalp, there is no discernable netting to signal that the hair on your head is not the hair you were born with. The lace foundation disappears as it touches your skin.  The lace is available in several colors so as to perfectly match your skin tone/complexion.   There are many base types to choose from and it can get confusing with all the technical terms and design choices.  The basic component of a lace front is its base.  For base, we mean the material on which the hair has been incorporated.  The base can be constructed of several types of material.  We will design the base however you instruct.  However, at Premium Lace Front Wigs®, we recommend only three types of bases:

French Lace:  French lace is a thin, finely woven lace.  It is more durable than Swiss lace but also more detectable (but still very natural even with up-close scrutiny).  If matched properly with your complexion, it is as undetectable as Swiss Lace.

Swiss Lace: Undetectable.  Finer/thinner than French lace but also less durable (easier to tear).  Disappears on the scalp very well upon application and is more durable than the Super Fine Swiss.
Super Fine Swiss Lace: The thinnest and most delicate lace available and can be used for the front hairline.  It can also be used for the entire base but French Lace is recommended with a Super Fine Swiss Lace front. Virtually invisible.

Custom Unit Bases:
You can create whatever base unit that meets your lifestyle. We recommend full French lace for the novice (as Swiss lace is more delicate). Further, we recommend using a French lace with ear-to-ear stretch with the following features:

  • French Lace + Ear to Ear Stretch - French Lace + Ear to Ear Stretch is a French lace with an elastic material constructed within the unit for maximum durability and elasticity. This will allow a client to pull back the hair in a high ponytail while offering an adjustable "perfect" fit. ** Recommended **
  • Bleached Knots – Bleaching of the knots along the front perimeter helps to create the most natural/invisible hairline.  It gives the illusion that hair is growing from your scalp ** Recommended **
  • Double or Single Knots Hairs are knotted underneath the unit to keep them in place.  We recommend single knots along the perimeter and double knots at the crown and back.  Single knots are less detectable and therefore should be used alone the front perimeter line to achieve a natural/invisible hairline.
  • Baby Hairs – Baby hairs are thinner hairs along the perimeter of the unit to allow for an all natural appearance. ** Recommended **
  • Density – Density describes how thick or thin the hair is.  In order to achieve the most natural look, we recommend medium-light density and having it cut in your desired style.
  • Length – First decide what style you’d prefer.  Then choose a length that will allow you to achieve your desired look.
